My name is Victor RIvera, President of AmCan Kiwanis.
I want to thank the Cub Socuts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Lions Club, Kiwanis Club and members of AmCan Family Resource Center who have participated over the last month collecting food for the Holiday Food Drive and AmCan Food Bank.
Background:
Over the past 10 years American Canyon Cub and Boy Scouts had participated in "Scouting for Food" on behalf of Mt. Diablo District Scouting Program. AmCan Residents are very generous and we decided the food needed to stay here in AmCan. Our Citizens have been very gracious and generous- our Scouts collected +25 lbs of food, compared to citizens in neighboring communities. We decided the food we collected should stay here in AmCan and benefit our community.
Brian Farmer of Farmers Insurance here in American Canyon (Palby's Plaza) took over the AmCan Food Pantry-he is also a board member of Both the AmCan Kiwanis and AmCan Family Resource Center. He can be reached at his office for food donations.
Last year we fed 98 local families for the Holiday food program from AmCan Family Resource Center. This year it looks as though 150 families will need assistance. Over the last 30 days we've collected +2000 lbs food form the 4 local schools. Last weekend we collected 3850 lbs canned and non-perishable food items. Almost 1000 lbs of canned foods with 'expired' food dates was immediately distributed to AmCan Family Resource Center and Christian Help Center for them to take home to their families.
We are collecting foods with United Way, Toys for Tots, local Schools, Ultimate Fitness, Local Churches and AmCan Family Resource Center to provide food, gifts, jackets, blankets, gift cards for local families in need.
I encourage you all to donate to help local families. No need to explain how the economy is impacting our national and local economy. Please be color-blind and non-political when you give. We are feeding AmCan Citizens though a screening process that helps the needy of our community.
Please be as generous as possible.. Thanks for listening.
