FREE CONCERT AT THE JFK LIBRARY
Saturday afternoon, January 31, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the JFK Library’s Joseph Room, 505 Santa Clara Street, Vallejo, the classical a cappella vocal group, “Coro D’Amici,” will present a free concert of sacred and secular music for unaccompanied voices from the Renaissance and the Twentieth Century.
Michael Senturia, the group’s director, is a Professor Emeritus of Music at UC Berkeley, where for thirty years he conducted the University Symphony and taught in the Department of Music. Once retired from the University and after acquiring a degree in Library Science, he worked as an adult services reference librarian for the Solano County Library at the JFK Branch in Vallejo. During his time there he introduced regular, free monthly music events at the library, which has has continued to this day.
Coro D’Amici has existed in one form or another since 1981. Its members come from the East Bay and include professionals from a variety of fields, all of whom have also trained as musicians. The group meets once a week to enjoy each other’s company and to sing unaccompanied classical repertoire from Renaissance to Modern. In 2005 the group toured Italy, singing in Fiesole, Florence, Siena and Rome. In recent years the group has enjoyed giving Bay Area concerts in Berkeley, Vallejo and Martinez.
Members of the group, in addition to Mr. Senturia, are Joan Bell, Rob Calvert, Christy Dana, Sean Dougall, Pat Jennerjohn, John Kelly, Pauline Ma-Senturia, Sonja Maund, Jo Maxon, Tom Mugglestone, Carol Paxson, Will Schweller, and Edna Yeh.
