Safety Reminders for July 4th

Tracey Stuart, City of American Canyon AGENCY
As we prepare to celebrate our nation's independence, the American Canyon Police Officers want to remind you to leave the fireworks to the professionals! Please don’t ruin your good time by getting in trouble for possessing or discharging fireworks. Even the “Safe and Sane” types are prohibited in American Canyon. Your fireworks will be confiscated and you could be cited.
Before launching those fireworks, stop and think. The protracted drought has increased fire danger exponentially around the Bay Area. The use of illegal fireworks has the potential to cause devastation; even a single spark could ignite a huge fire.
While many of us enjoy this celebration, most animals do not. If you can, move you pets inside for the night. When animals panic they get creative and escape, even from fenced backyards. Each year, we are called to help strays, dogs in roadways and dogs that have been hit by cars after escaping. A panicked dog will run miles from its house and be difficult to find.
The American Canyon Police Department wishes you a safe and enjoyable Independence Day!
