Accelerating at lights or stop signs

Post by Issa »

I was just thinking the other day, is there some law against accelerating fast even if you dont go past the speed limit? For example, sometimes at the light I just like to have fun with my car and accelerate fast but never go past the speed limit and never to race anybody. Can I get a ticket for this? Is there any law or problem against this? Just really curious!

Issa,
The answer to the first question would be "yes". The answer to #2 would be "possibly". Finally, there is a law that covers this.
California Vehicle Code 23109(c): A person shall not engage in any motor vehicle exhibition of speed on a highway, and no person shall aid or abet in a motor vehicle exhibition of speed on any highway.

Exhibition of speed covers actions suchs as: "burn outs", motorcycles doing "wheelies" down the road, and basically anything where a driver would be exhibitng speed to others. Also, other related violations we usually find with this type of violation are: excessively loud exhaust and modified smog equipment (air intakes, headers, adjustable timing gears, etc.).
